Fate and destiny in the ancient Indian literature

Abstract

Тема данной дипломной работы - "Представления о судьбе в древнеиндийской литературе". Объединяя литературоведческий и лингвистический аспекты, работа призвана обрисовать процесс развития представлений о судьбе в рамках исследуемого периода. На основании анализа этимологии и контекста использования различных лексем, обозначающих судьбу, в работе исследуется взаимосвязь представлений о судьбе с верой в перерождения и карму. Работа снабжена приложением, содержащим переводы фрагментов из Махабхараты и Нитишатаки Бхартрихари. В исследовании также использовались тексты Ригведы, Яджурведы, Атхарваведы, Шатапатха-брахманы, упанишад и Ману-смрити.The theme of the graduate thesis is "Fate and destiny in the ancient Indian literature". Combining literary and linguistic approaches the thesis overviews the development of the concept of destiny within the considerated period. In the paper the correlation between the concept of destiny and the doctrine of karma and rebirth is examined, based on the analysis of the etymology and the use of the words denoting fate and destiny. The application of the thesis provides translations of the fragments of Mahabharata and Nitishataka of Bhartrihari. The texts of Rigveda, Yajurveda, Atharvaveda, Shatapatha-Brahmana,upanishadas and Manu-smriti were also used for the analysis.
