Transfer of emotive lexis in Russian translations of Jack London's "White Fang": a diachronic perspective

Abstract

В данной выпускной квалификационной работе рассматривается проблема передачи оценочной лексики в переводе. В качестве материала используются три разновременных перевода повести Джека Лондона «Белый Клык». Теоретическая часть охватывает различные подходы к определению понятия лексического значения слова, месту эмотивного и оценочного компонента внутри структуры лексического значения, а также вопросу эквивалентности в переводе. Практическая часть содержит подробный разбор наиболее интересных примеров, которые были отобраны из материала и распределены по четырём степеням эквивалентности в соответствии с оригинальной классификацией, представленной в данной работе. Значимым итоговым компонентом исследования является статистический анализ полученных данных с выходом на диахроническую перспективу и описанием основных тенденций в подходе переводчиков к передаче эмотивной лексики.This final graduation project focuses on the problem of transfer of emotive lexis in translation. The research material is represented by three translations of Jack London’s novel White Fang, which were created at different periods of time. The theoretical part of the research describes different approaches to the definition of the word meaning, the place of emotional and evaluative component inside its structure, and the question of equivalence in translation. The practical part contains a detailed analysis of the most interesting examples, selected from the material and classified into four degrees of equivalence in accordance with the original classification, developed for this project. An important final component of the research is the statistical analysis of the obtained data, opening a diachronic perspective on the main trends in translators’ approach to the transfer of emotive lexis.
