Conceptualisation of size in English and Russian phraseological worldview

Abstract

В рамках данной работы исследовались английские и русские фразеологические единицы, формирующие концепт величины. Проведен сопоставительный анализ фразеологических единиц, содержащих компоненты big, large, little, small, и их русских соответствий. Дано описание сходств и различий, позволяющих выявить характерные для двух народов принципы концептуализации величины. Рассмотрены семантические особенности, частотность, продуктивность и способность указанных компонентов приобретать в ФЕ дополнительные, не представленные в словарной статье оттенки смысла. Произведено моделирование концептов величины в английской и русской фразеологической картинах мира.This paper reveals the analysis of English and Russian phraseological units forming the concept of size. It presents comparative analysis of phraseological units containing the components big, little, large, small and their Russian equivalents. The description of the similarities and differences allows to identify the typical ways of conceptualization of size for two nations. The attention is paid to semantic features, frequency, productivity and the ability of the components under analysis to take additional figurative shades of meaning not registered in the dictionary. The research results in reconstructing the concept of size in English and Russian phraseological worldview.
