Linguo-culturological analysis of allusions to the names of literary characters, authors and titles of works of fiction (based on English literature)

Abstract

Исследование посвящено анализу литературной аллюзии как стилистического приема на материале англоязычных художественных текстов. В данной работе рассмотрены примеры репрезентации аллюзий на имена героев, авторов и названия английских и русских классических произведений. Кроме того, был проведен сопоставительный анализ реализации литературных аллюзий на английскую и русскую классику. Анализ позволил выявить, помимо аллюзий, единицы, являющиеся частично аллюзивными, а также сделать выводы о различиях в восприятии отсылок к английской и русской литературе англоязычным реципиентом.The work is devoted to the analysis of the literary allusion as a stylistic device in modern English literary texts. Allusions to the names of characters, authors and titles of English and Russian classical works have been studied to reveal three types of linguistic representation (epithet, simile and metaphor). Besides, a comparative analysis of literary allusions to English and Russian classics has been carried out. Analysis of the material has enabled us to suggest that along with allusions there exist partly allusive units which are functionally similar to allusions proper. It has also been supposed that an English-speaking recipient’s perception of English allusions differs significantly from that of other (Russian) literary allusions.
