Abstract
The protests of 1968 became an important episode in the French history. The public discussions about 1968 have been splitting the French society since the very beginning of the uprisings. For the elapsed time, some habitual narratives and cliches have been aroused in the collective memory. The debates become more intense every ten years, and cause a significant number of publications in the French press. This thesis analyzes the publications of the leading French mass media at the time of the last two anniversaries (2008 and 2018) in order to understand the contemporary memory studies of the French society of the 1968 revolts. The commemorations of the events of May and June of 1968 underwent some changes for the decade between the last anniversaries. The articles printed in 2018, as opposed to the 2008 publications, included the clichés about 1968 less often. At the same time, the publications of 2018 gave more examples of the experience of different social groups (police officers, women, members of the authorities) and demonstrated more historical analogies of the present and the past events connected to the uprisings of 1968.
