Imagery in Ivan Bunin's prose as a translation issue: A case study of the translation of the "Dark Avenues" cycle into Spanish

Цикл рассказов 'Темные аллеи' —один из важнейших трудов русского писателя Ивана Алексеевича Бунина— был переведён частично на испанский язык дважды: в 1957 году Феликсом Кабальеро под названием 'Avenidas Oscuras y otros cuentos', и в 2003 году Оксаной Кошил Куцей и Руфо Маритном Матео под названием 'Relatos de Alamedas Oscuras'. В данной работе анализируются оба перевода с точки зрения компаративистики, с одной стороны, и контрастивной лингвистики, с другой, c целью определения особенности этих переводов, а именно отличия переводных текстов от подлинника. Это позволит лучше понять целесообразность тех или иных изменений.The collection of short stories 'Темные аллеи' ('Dark Aveneus'), one of the most important works of Russian writer Ivan Bunin, was partly translated into Spanish twice: on 1957 by Félix Caballero under the name 'Avenidas Oscuras y otros cuentos' and on 2003 by Oxana Kóshil Kutsa and Rufo Martín Mateo under the name 'Relatos de Alamedas Oscuras'. In this work we analyze both translations from the point of view of comparative literature, on one hand, and contrastive linguistics, on the other. Our objective is to define the singularities of these translations, namely the differences between the translated works and the original. These will help us to understand the worthwhileness of the changes.
