Abstract
Bachelor's thesis is devoted to the definition of the chemical and mineral composition, as well as the factors and mechanisms of the formation of modern carbonate formations (travertines and alm) in the south of the Leningrad Region. Our data indicate that the studied travertines and alm are formed under the action of a complex of abiogenic and biogenic factors. The special role of Dichothrix baueriana cyanobacteria for the crystallization of calcite was first established. It is shown that the mineral composition of carbonate deposits is represented by calcite and aragonite and is poorer than at the fountains of Peterhof. The appearance of aragonite in the sediment is associated with an increased content of magnesium in the solution and, as a consequence, in the carbonate sediment (MgO> 1 wt.%), And also a calmer (in comparison with the conditions for the formation of calcite travertines) by hydrodynamic conditions.
