American and Russian public diplomacy in Ukraine and Armenia

Abstract

Процесс создания благоприятного имиджа страны за рубежом играет значимую роль во внешней политике государства. В данной дипломной работе рассмотрено содержание деятельности в рамках публичной дипломатии и его изменения на протяжении 20-21 веков. В ходе работы были сопоставлены примеры развития публичной дипломатии США и СССР/России со времён «холодной войны» и по сегодняшний день. В настоящее время страны постсоветского пространства занимают особое место во внешнеполитической деятельности России и США, поэтому в данном исследовании были проанализированы американский и российский подходы к реализации публичной дипломатии в следующих государствах: Армения и Украина. В результате проведённого в дипломной работе сравнения удалось прийти к выводу о том, что эффективность российской публичной дипломатии в соответствующих странах находится на более низком уровне в сравнении с американским опытом. В частности, данный фактор сегодня оказывает влияние на сохранение негативного имиджа Российской Федерации в Украине.The process of creating a favorable image of a country abroad plays a significant role in the state’s foreign policy. This thesis discusses the content of public diplomacy activities and its changes over the 20-21 centuries. In the work, examples of the development of public diplomacy of the USA and the USSR / Russia from the time of the Cold War to the present were compared. Currently, the countries of the post-Soviet space occupy a special place in the foreign policy of Russia and the United States, therefore, this study analyzed the American and Russian approaches to the implementation of public diplomacy in the following states: Armenia and Ukraine. As a result of the comparison carried out in the thesis, it was possible to conclude that the effectiveness of Russian public diplomacy in the respective countries is lower in contrast to the American experience. In particular, this factor today affects the preservation of the negative image of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
