The use of conceptual metaphor in early 20th century American urbanistic poetry

Abstract

Данная выпускная квалификационная работа посвящена исследованию вопроса реализации концептуальных метафор в американской урбанистической поэзии первой половины 20 века. Материалом для исследования послужили стихотворения Карла Сэндберга и Харта Крейна. Данная работа ставит своей целью определить то, каким образом культурные, исторические и социальные факторы влияют на реализацию концептуальных метафор. Работа состоит из введения, теоретической и практической главы, выводов к ним, заключения и библиографии. В первой части данной работы рассмотрены основные положения теории концептуальной метафоры, выявлены культурные особенности реализации концептуальных метафор в разных культурах и в пределах одной и той же культуры, а также обозначена специфика реализации концептуальных метафор в поэзии в целом. Во второй части данного исследования рассмотрены примеры реализации концептуальных метафор в поэзии К. Сэндберга и Х. Крейна, а также приведен анализ примеров культурно или исторически обусловленной реализации концептуальных метафор.This graduation thesis presents research into the use of conceptual metaphor in American urbanistic poetry of early 20th century. Poems by Carl Sandburg and Hart Crane served as data for the research. The goal of the present thesis is to determine the way in which cultural, historical and social factors affect the use of conceptual metaphors. The thesis contains an introduction, the theoretical part, the practical part, their summaries, a conclusion and a list of references. The first part of this thesis examines the basic principles of theory of conceptual metaphor, determines the cultural differences in use of conceptual metaphors between various cultures and within a single culture. It also describes the specifics of use of conceptual metaphors in poetry in general. The second part of the thesis analyses instances of use of conceptual metaphors in the poems of C. Sandburg and H. Crane and provides an analysis of examples of culturally or historically determined use of conceptual metaphors.
