Abstract
Магистерская диссертация посвящена приемам репрезентации современного образа России в англоязычном публицистическом дискурсе. Исследование проводится на материале статей о России с веб-сайтов BBC, CNN, The Guardian и The New York Times за 2015-2016 гг. Вводятся две классификации: лингвистическая и тематическая. Лингвистическая классификация включает в себя четыре уровня: 1) денотативный, 2) коннотативный; 3) ассоциативный; 4) метафорический. Показано, что анализируемые англоязычные СМИ при характеристике образа России используют реалии русской культуры, коннотативно окрашенную лексику, лексику, вызывающую ассоциации с СССР и периодом холодной войны, а также стилистические приемы. Тематическая классификация отражает функционирование лингвистических средств, или какой образ России они помогают создать. Результаты исследования показывают, что лингвистические средства служат для поддержания негативного образа России и сохранения стереотипов об агрессии и тоталитаризме нашей страны, что обуславливается современной международной ситуацией.
This master’s thesis is focused on the means of representation of the contemporary image of Russia in English and American mass media discourse. The research is based on the articles about Russia from the web-pages of BBC, CNN, The Guardian and The New York Times over the period of 2015 and 2016. Two classifications are introduced which are the linguistic one and the thematic one. The linguistic classification includes four levels: 1) denotative; 2) connotative; 3) associative; 4) metaphorical. The research shows that the media sources which are analyzed use realias of Russian culture, connotative lexemes, lexemes which produce associations with the USSR and the Cold War and stylistic devices. The thematic classification reflects the functioning of the linguistic means or, in other words, the image of Russia they help create. The results show that the linguistic means serve to maintain the negative image of Russia and to keep the stereotypes about aggression and totalitarianism of this country which is explained by the current international situation.
