Inheritance of the intensity of metabolism in fowl

Abstract

The inheritance of intensity of metabolism was studied by crossing the fowl of the breeds of leghorn which have high level of metabolism and australorp with low level of metabolism. Fx and fb were studied. The Intensity of metabolism is characterized by heat production, derived from gas exchange. It was established that the high level of metabolism dominates and the nucleo-cytoplasmic relation plays an important role in the character of Inheritance. The results are discussed in connection with the data on inheritance of external inhibition of oviposition in fowl.
