The impact of the trade war between the United States and the People's Republic of China on the economy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

Abstract

Цель исследования - определить, как торговая война между США и Китаем влияет на экономику Вьетнама. Гипотеза исследования заключается в том, что, хотя Вьетнам извлекает выгоду из перенаправления торговых потоков и цепочек поставок в результате торговой войны между США и Китаем, положительное влияние на экономику страны окажется лишь краткосрочным. Таким образом, в ходе торговой войны Вьетнам де-факто используется против США.The aim of the study is to identify how the trade war between the US and China influenced the Vietnamese economy. The hypothesis of the study is that while Vietnam benefits from the redirection of trade flows and supply chains as a result of the US-China trade war, Vietnam's growth will have only a short-term positive effect on the country's economy. In the long term, higher US tariffs, environmental concerns, and a slowdown in development overshadow short-term gains. The author analyses the foreign policy of Vietnam and identifies potential risks and opportunities for the Vietnamese economy as a result of the trade war between China and the United States. It was found out that Vietnam provides China with an opportunity to bypass trade war obstacles and becomes more dependent on China as a result of the indirect influence of the trade war. At the same time, Vietnam is viewed by the United States as a partner in containing China. Thus, in the course of the trade war, Vietnam is de facto used against the United States.
