Abstract
Настоящая выпускная квалификационная работа рассматривает проблему межъязыковой семантической вариативности при переводе. Актуальность данной темы обусловлена неотъемлемостью и разнообразностью явления вариативности в языке и, следовательно, в процессе перевода.
В данной работе предпринята попытка рассмотреть перевод художественных произведений не только с позиции эквивалентности, а также с точки зрения их вариантности. Цель исследования – выяснить на примере переводов романа Ф.С. Фитцджеральда The Great Gatsby и романа М.А.
The thesis addresses the problem of interlanguage semantic variation in translation. The relevance of this topic is due to the inalienable character of the phenomenon of variation in language and, consequently, in the process of translation. The paper attempts to consider literary translation not only in terms of equivalence, but also in terms of variability. The aim of the research is to find out the way in which the semantic variation of linguistic units manifests itself in their translations (from English into Russian and from Russian into English) on the example of F.S. Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby and the novel "Master and Margarita" by M.A. Bulgakov. The paper presents the results of the comparative analysis of the examples of translation mismatches selected by continuous sampling and classified by types. The analysis shows that a greater degree of variation is observed in the translation of the novel The Great Gatsby from English into Russian than in the translation of the novel The Master and Margarita from Russian into English. This is presumably attributable to many various factors including different grammatical structures of the Russian and English languages, the differences in the intralingual relations between the concepts of reality and their reflection in the vocabulary, different dominant translation strategies and methods in the USSR, Russia, and in English-speaking countries. The results of the study suggest some practical recommendations: translators are encouraged to pay attention to the semes (semantemes) of the source units and the units selected as a translation option, to analyze their semantic structure and connotative meaning, especially when translating words that have broad meaning, as well as to use the methods of corpus linguistics.
