Boredom in the spiritual experience of the characters of Ivan Goncharov's novel "The Precipice"

Abstract

В работе исследуется мотив скуки в романе И.А. Гончарова "Обрыв". Предпринимается попытка определить корни разных форм скуки у нескольких персонажей в связи с их характерами и литературными типами. Большее внимание уделяется двум культурным явлениям, повлиявшим на возникновение и развитие феномена скуки: романтизму и нигилизму. Кроме того, в качестве приложения приводится перевод отдельных ключевых фрагментов книги немецкого исследователя Вальтера Рэма "Гончаров и Якобсен, или Скука и апатия", которая до сих пор не была переведена на русский язык.The research is on the motive of boredom in the Ivan Goncharov's novel "The Precipice". It was made an attempt to determine the nature of different boredom forms by some characters in connection with their behavior and literary types. The special attention is given to two cultural events, that influenced appearance and evolution of the boredom phenomenon: Romanticism and Nihilism. Moreover, as a supplement there is a translation of some crucial fragments of the German scientist Walther Rehm book "Goncharov und Jacobsen, oder boredom and apathy", that is still not translated into the Russian language.
