Reforming and development of cultural organizations of North-Eastern China (1978–2008)

Abstract

The reform policy that is being implemented in the PRC affects all spheres of activity, including culture and its institutions. In the article the author analyzes the process of reforming cultural institutions and notes the positive results of the reforms, as well as their negative sides. To address these problems, the activities of cultural institutions (theaters, cinemas, museums, libraries, artistic performing groups, etc.) under the conditions of reforms are considered. As a result of reforming cultural institutions, both qualitative and quantitative changes occurred. The transition from the state monopoly to the diversity of forms of ownership gave new opportunities for development. In the planning of long-term goals for the development of the sphere of culture and in the sphere of investment in culture, the leading role of the state has remained. There was a significant increase in the number of libraries and museums.
