A comparative study of the mutagenic action of different types Of radiation and ethyleneimine on the alga chlorella

Abstract

This is a comparative study of the mutagenic action of X-rays, ultraviolet and ethyleneimine on the alga Chlorella for doses with the same lethal effect. The frequency of appearing of two types of pigment mutants (white and yellow colonies) was a criterion of the mutagenic effect. The ultra-violet rays appear to be more effective than other mutagens for doses with high letha!activity. The X-rays and ethyleneimine were more effective for doses with lethal effect less than 90%. The mutation spectrum was similar for all three mutagens, but relative amounts of white and yellow mutants were different for each mutagen.
