The semantics of the Russian verbs ending with "-ся" and their translation into Estonian

Abstract

В выпускной квалификационной работе представлены способы перевода русских глаголов на -ся на эстонский язык. Проанализированы варианты, предлагаемые русско-эстонскими словарями. Осуществлена классификация выбранных из словаря В. Мухеля глаголов на -ся на собственно возвратные, взаимно возвратные, общевозвратные, страдательные и иначе неупотребляемые; выделены многозначные, однокоренные, синонимичные, омонимичные возвратные глаголы, неологизмы и архаизмы. Предложен анализ способов перевода каждой из выделенных групп глаголов на –ся на эстонский язык, к числу которых относится добавление к эстонскому производящему глаголу местоимений (end, teineteist и др.), разъяснительных слов, использование эстонских рефлексивных, фреквентативных глаголов и глаголов мгновенного действия. На примере текста романа М.А. Булгакова «Мастер и Маргарита» и его перевода на эстонский язык предложен анализ того, какие способы перевода русских глаголов на -ся на эстонский язык чаще избирают переводчики художественных произведений, следуют ли они в своей работе вариантам, предложенными двуязычными словарями.

The research paper includes the analysis of different ways of translating Russian verbs with postfix –ся into the Estonian language, given by Russian-Estonian dictionaries. The author offers her classification of verbs with postfix -ся selected from the dictionary of V. Muhel, also attributing synonyms, homonyms, neologisms, archaisms etc. The author suggests several ways of translation of all these types of verbs with postfix -ся into the Estonian language. For example, one way is to use a pronoun (end or teineteist) in addition to the main verb or to use some other words that may help the translator to convey the meaning of the Russian verb. It is also possible to apply some suffixes, which has proved to be one of the most efficient ways of translating these Russian verbs into Estonian. The last part of the research paper contains the analysis of the translation of verbs with postfix -ся into the Estonian language in fiction. The author focuses on how the translators of «Мaster and Margarita» by M. Bulgakov coped with the difficulties of translating verbs with postfix –ся in this book, what translation techniques they have chosen and whether their translation matches the Estonian verbs offered by V.Muhel in his Russian-Estonian dictionary.
