The effect of plant hormones on thr mitotic activity in maize seedling organs

Abstract

The removal of coieoptile producting auxin causes the acceleration of root growth together with its mitotic activity. The removal of root diminishes the mitotic index (MI) in leaves but does not influence it in mesocotyl and coieoptile. IAA placed on the residue of shoot inhibits both the division and the elongation of root cells and stimulates mescotyl and coieoptile cell elongation. Gibberellic acid stimulates elongation of leaf base cells and together with kinetin increases MI in leaves. It is concluded that the root growth regulation is realized by IAA effect on mitotic activity and elongation of root cells, and the shoot growth is regulated by a complex of plant hormones produced by axial organs.

Удаление у проростков кукурузы колеоптиля, вырабатывающего ауксин, приводит к усилению как роста корня, так и митотической активности в нем. Удаление корня приводит к снижению митотического индекса (МИ) в листьях, почти не влияя на таковой в мезокотиле и колеоптиле. ИУК, нанесенная на срез надземной части, подавляет как деление, так и растяжение клеток корня, усиливая растяжение клеток в мезокотиле и колеоптиле. Гибберелловая кислота усиливает растяжение клеток основания листа, а в сочетании с кинетином увеличивает и значение МИ в нем. Делается вывод, что регуляция роста корня осуществляется посредством влияния ИУК как на митотическую активность, так и на растяжение клеток корня, а рост надземных органов регулируется всем комплексом гормонов, вырабатываемых осевыми органами проростка.
