Private Art Institutions of Modern Russia (2014-2024)

Abstract

В работе рассматривается развитие арт-сцены в России с 2014 по 2024 год. Анализируются изменения, произошедшие в арт-сцене Москвы, Санкт-Петербурга и Нижнего Новгорода, а также типология новых институций, появившихся в этот период. В первом главе было проанализировано развитие арт-сцен трех выбранных городов, были выявлены основные тенденции в в создании и существовании институций, а также в формировании вкусов зрителя и покупателя. Во второй главе была составлена типология институций, возникших в трех выбранных для анализа городах за последне десятилетние. Среди рассмотренных проектов были выявлены три основных вида - коммерческие галереи, основной задачей которых является продажа произведений искусства и формирование рынка, некоммерческие проекты, направленные в первую очередь на выведение искусства в публичную сферу, а также “тусовки”, основной задачей которых является предоставление площадки для художников и кураторов из узкого круга знакомых. Третья глава описывает локальную специфику институций и их включение в контекст каждого из городов. В целом, работа представляет собой анализ развития арт-сцены в России за последние два десятилетия и выявляет основные тенденции и изменения в этой области.

The paper examines the development of the art scene in Russia from 2014 to 2024. It analyses the changes that occurred in the art scene of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod, as well as the typology of new institutions that emerged during this period. The first chapter analysed the development of the art scenes in the three selected cities, identifying the main trends in the creation and existence of institutions, as well as in the formation of viewer and buyer tastes. In the second chapter, a typology of institutions that have emerged in the three selected cities over the last decade was compiled. Among the projects analysed, three main types were identified: commercial galleries, whose main objective is to sell artworks and create a market; non-commercial projects, aimed primarily at bringing art into the public sphere; and "hangouts", whose main objective is to provide a platform for artists and curators from a narrow circle of acquaintances. The third chapter describes the local specificity of the institutions and their incorporation into the context of each of the cities. Overall, the paper analyses the development of the art scene in Russia over the last two decades and identifies the main trends and changes in this area.
