Festivals celebrating the change of annual cycles in Germany and Russia: Traditional and contemporary cultural aspects

Abstract

В работе исследуется трансформация характера празднования смены годовых циклов на примере календарных праздников в России и Германии. Праздник - это древнейший феномен общественной жизни, который представляет собой огромную ценность для исследования как материальной, так и духовной составляющих культуры. Система праздников формирует календарь, закрепляющий основные переходные точки в жизнедеятельности человека. Переходные дни подчеркивались особым карнавальным и ритуальным оформлением, которое, несмотря на значительные изменения на протяжении веков, сохраняло устойчивые черты и особенности. Актуальность исследования вызвана интересом проследить базовые признаки, присущие как традиционному празднованию смены годового цикла в России и Германии, так и современному, и указать на произошедшие изменения. Автор исследования ставит перед собой задачи отразить статус годового цикла, показать связь календарного цикла с мифологическим сознанием, обозначить основные составляющие праздника и выявить его мифоритуальные корни, определить важнейшие компоненты ритуального и карнавального оформления традиционного празднования зимнего цикла праздников в России и Германии, охарактеризовать празднование смены годовых циклов в России и Германии в контексте современности и продемонстрировать в них проявления мифологического сознания.

This diploma thesis deals with the transformation of the character of the change of annual cycles celebration on the example of calendar holidays in Russia and Germany. Holiday - is an ancient phenomenon of social life, which is of a great value for the study of both material and spiritual components of culture. The celebration system generates a calendar, which fixes the major transition points in human life. Transitional days were highlighted with the special carnival and ritual design, which, in spite of significant changes over the centuries, still preserves stable features and characteristics. The study is relevant today due to the desire to follow the basic features pecular to the change of annual cycles celebration in Russia and Germany, as well as to the modern one, and to point out the changes. Author of the study aims to reflect the status of the annual cycle, to show the connection of the calendar cycle to the mythological consciousness, to indicate the main components of celebration and to identify its mythos-ritual roots, to identify the major components of the ritual and carnival decoration of the traditional celebration of the winter cycle festivals in Russia and Germany, characterized by the change of annual cycles celebration in Russia and Germany in the context of the present time and to demonstrate their manifestations of mythological consciousness.
