The 2004 parliamentary election in India through the eyes of political cartoonists

Abstract

Данная исследовательская работа посвящена индийской политической карикатуре и ее роли в современной индийской политике. Карикатуры, критически оценивающие политические события в стране, позволяют автору проанализировать особенности и рассмотреть ход событий парламентских выборов 2004 г. в Индии. Выборы - один из гарантов демократической системы страны, существующей и в Индии, поэтому работа также затрагивает проблемы политической культуры страны, особенно ее демократических элементов и институтов, а также исследует истоки их возникновения и становления в Индии. Практически с самого начала появления в стране периодической печати индийские карикатуристы могли свободно выражать и отражать в своих работах проблемы и ошибки правительства. Эти проблемы, представляющие интерес и в настоящее время, рассматриваются в данной исследовательской работе.

This research paper focuses on Indian political cartoon and its role in contemporary Indian politics. Cartoons that critically assess the political events in the country allow the author to analyze the features and consider the course of events in the 2004 parliamentary elections in India. Elections are one of the guarantors of the country's democratic system that exists in India. Therefore, the work also touches on the problems of the country's political culture, especially its democratic elements and institutions, and also examines the origins of their emergence and formation in India. Almost from the very beginning of the appearance of the periodical press in the country, Indian cartoonists were free to express and reflect the problems and mistakes of the government in their works. These problems, which are of interest at the present time, are considered in this research paper.
