Pierre Bersuire’s Treatise "Ovidus Moralizatus" in the Context of Medieval Reception of Ancient Mythology

Abstract

Данное исследование является первой попыткой комплексного анализа трактата позднего Средневековья «Ovidus Moralizatus» Петра Берхория. В нашем исследовании мы постарались осветить данный литературный памятник с нескольких сторон: рассмотрели его как исторический артефакт, обратив внимание на контекст эпохи его создания; проанализировали данный трактат с точки зрения целей, двигавших автором при его написании; и, наконец, сделали некоторые выводы относительно содержащихся в нем идей. Кроме того, в рамках данной работы был произведен перевод первой главы трактата «Ovidus Moralizatus» с латинского оригинала на русский язык. Ранее данная глава на русский язык не переводилась.

This research is the first attempt to conduct a complex analysis of the late Middle Ages’ tractate called “Ovidus Moralizatus” by Petrus Berchorius. We have tried to spotlight this literary monument from different points of view in our research: we have examined it as a historical artifact taking into consideration the context of it’s creation époque; we have analyzed this tractate from the perspective of the objectives that the author was trying during the process of writing; and, finally, we have drawn some conclusions regarding the ideas that are contained in this research. Moreover, within the margins of this work the first chapter of the tractate “Ovidus Moralizatus” has been translated from the Latin original into the Russian language. Earlier this chapter was not translated into Russian.
