Domestic and foreign policy preconditions and consequences of the legalization of marijuana in Canada

Abstract

На сегодняшний день легализация марихуаны является одной из самых острых и обсуждаемых проблем канадского общества. Она затрагивает такие сферы как здравоохранение, экономика, политика, юриспруденция и международные отношения. Главными оппонентами являются Консервативная и Либеральная партии Канады, которые активно отстаивают свои позиции и не идут на компромиссы. По результатам парламентских выборов 2015 года, Либеральная партия во главе с Джастином Трюдо стала правящей партией Канады. Это событие принесло кардинальные изменения, и беспокойство общества и политических деятелей о том, ответить «да» или «нет» легализации марихуаны, сменилось рядом практических вопросов, которые больше связаны с тем, как именно эта легализация будет реализована.

Nowadays the legalization of marijuana is one of the most acute and debated problems of Canadian society. It covers such areas as health, economics, politics, jurisprudence and international relations. The main opponents are the Conservative and Liberal parties of Canada, who are actively defending their positions and are not able to reach the compromise. According to the results of the parliamentary elections of 2015 year, the Liberal Party, headed by Justin Trudeau, became the ruling party of Canada. This event brought some cardinal changes, the concern of society and politicians about whether to answer yes or no to marijuana legalization was replaced by a number of practical issues that are more closely related to the way this legalization will be implemented.
