Название: ‘She has become an Israeli’: women in the Russian Subbotnik movement of the 19th century
Авторы: Khizhaya, Tatiana I.
Краткий осмотр (реферат): The research focuses on the ‘female segment’ of the Russian Subbotnik movement – the religious
phenomenon in Russia of the Modern Era. In archival documents of the 19th century, investigating
the cases of the ‘Judaizers sect’, significant, and sometimes even key figures happen to be women born
to Judaizing families or converted to the ‘Jewish faith’ after their marriage. They are representatives
of the diverse regions and classes of the Russian Empire. They are sectarians acting primarily in their
homemaking capacity: wives, daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law, mothers-in-law. At the same time
they are convinced upholders of ‘the Old Testament faith,’ ready to sacrifice their well-being, ordinary
lifestyle, and sometimes even the most precious — their own children and husbands for the sake of
loyalty to the ‘God of Israel’. The author examines different aspects of the lives of female followers of ‘the
Mosaic law’: patterns and motives of conversion, position in the family, family and interconfessional
relations, the role in Subbotnik communities and also the specific character of the fate of the female
‘Russian Israelis’ in the context of the anti-sectarian legislation of the empire. Analysis of sources
shows that women played an important role in Judaizers’ families and communities in the 19th century.
They brought up their children in the faith, displayed perseverance in dealing with authorities and also
prevented other members of the sectarian community from converting to the dominant confession.
An investigation into cases of Subbotnik women represents both victims and actors who influence the
life of other people, sometimes by rather harsh methods. Personal histories, the subject of the author’s
research, reflect on the one hand the particularities of female religiosity in Russian sectarianism, and,
on the other hand, the peculiarities, tendencies, and problems of the Judaizers’ movement during the
reign of two Russian monarchs: Alexander I and Nicholas I. Refs 13.2017-03-01T00:00:00ZWipper’s Religious myth theory

Авторы: Weber, Dmitriy I.
Краткий осмотр (реферат): This research is devoted to the views of Robert Yurievich Wipper, a historian who has worked both in
Russia and abroad, in the study of religion. His work can be divided into two main areas of research:
1) the Reformation, especially Calvinism, 2) the first centuries of Christianity. It is important to note
that the research topics concerning religious and political events of the 16th century were related to
the early stages of his activity. The formation of Wipper as a historian occurred at the end of the 19th
century. It was time when there were popular ideas of positivism. A later development of ideas with
the advent of Christianity fit into the so-called mythological school. Wipper’s ideas on this evolved,
including the environmental spread of religion, but the main postulate for several decades, regardless
of where the historian, worked at the time, Latvia or the Soviet Union, remained unchanged: the figure
of Jesus Christ was mythological rather than historical. His ideas were not only affected in the person
of Klyiuchevskiy or Guerrier, but foreign researchers as well, links to whom are often found especially
in his early works, from the end of the 19th century to 1910. The ideas of Marxism had a significant
influence which was understandable for the time. Refs 14.2017-03-01T00:00:00ZRussian traditionalism as a principle of Russian modernization

Название: Russian traditionalism as a principle of Russian modernization
Авторы: Polatayko, Sergey V.
Краткий осмотр (реферат): The article focuses on the role of Russian traditionalism in the formation of national identity in Russia
and especially its actualization from a historical perspective. Based on the ideas of N. Danilevsky
and KN Leontiev, the author defends the thesis that the logic of national reality expresses its structural
contents. This is the essence of the national tradition whose stability is set out as productive interaction
through, on the one hand, conditional objective factors (natural) and, on the other, relatively
subjective (mental, moral) factors. And if the first, being passive, is tradition, the second, its activity,
is determined. The article stresses that any self-knowledge is an expression of active attitude of the
people in the first case to itself through correlation of the activity (its goals and forms) with the objective
order of things. The Russian-Russian understanding can be understood as the identification of
stable, reproducible regularly, structural relationships in their natural and artificial relativity. Refs 7.2017-03-01T00:00:00ZThe essence of cross-cultural conflict (presentation of a problem)

Краткий осмотр (реферат): The article deals with issues describing the nature of cross-cultural conflict. The source of conflict
is social conflict. Modern society in cultural terms is a rather diverse phenomenon that leads to the
emergence of hotbeds of tension and conflict. The most difficult point is the escalation of social conflict
into intercultural conflict. Analysis of the historical development of intercultural conflict uncovers
the powerful potential of its ability to reach different spheres of society other than the one in which
it originally arose. It impacts several neighboring areas of social development. Intercultural conflict
generates its energy from various situations: domestic policy, international relations, economics, and
other fields. Refs 10.2017-03-01T00:00:00ZChinese peasant painting (nongminhua): history milestones and main production centers

Название: Chinese peasant painting (nongminhua): history milestones and main production centers
Авторы: Komarovskaya, Polina A.
Краткий осмотр (реферат): Stylistic transformations of Chinese peasant painting nongminhua is inextricably linked with changes
in the political life of the CPR. In its development this folk craft passed through three stages, the first
of which fell during the “Great Leap Forward” period (1958–60). During this time nongminhua existed
in the form of works of naive propaganda painted as wall murals and later on paper. In the second
stage, which coincided with the later years of “The Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution” (1966–76),
nongminhua was produced in the form of political posters in socialist realist style. The ongoing third
phase, which began during “Reform and Opening Up” period of the 1980s, is characterized by the
rejection of politicized content and focus on folk art. The author of the present article traces the history
of some of the most important centers of nongminhua production, which emerged in different periods.
Earlier, we had already made a prone study of the largest nongminhua production center
in Huxian county (Shaanxi Province), and in this article we will focus on the history and style of
other regions. The latter were chosen for the following reasons: Shulu (Hebei Province) and Peixian
(Jiangsu Province) are important for our research as origin areas of nongminhua, Jinshan (Shanghai)
is of interest as a centre of the formation of the modern style, and Longmen (Guangdong Province)
is examined as one of the largest nongminhua production centers at present. Unfortunately, the size
of the article does not permit to explore a larger number of important centers, so our study will be
continued in subsequent work. Refs 10. Figs 5.2017-03-01T00:00:00ZPhilosophical conceptual apparatus formation in ukrainian literary works of the 17th century: ‘dobro’ and ‘blaho’

Название: Philosophical conceptual apparatus formation in ukrainian literary works of the 17th century: ‘dobro’ and ‘blaho’
Авторы: Dovga, Larysa M.
Краткий осмотр (реферат): The history of the formation of theological and philosophical apparatus in the Ukrainian literary
works in early modern era period remains today almost untouched field of humanitarian studies.
Meanwhile the ratio to the text and to the word, understanding its (word) significance, search of the
semantic relations between different words/concepts/terms as well as the establishing semantic fields
of individual lexemes are the signs that signal about the type of cultural area, thinking practices that
prevalent in it, finally, about the formation of their own philosophical discourse within the particular
culture. The article defines the semantic fields and the principles of use of lexemes “dobro” and “blaho”
in the Ukrainian publications of the first quarter of the 17th century, in particular in the book “Likarstvo
na ospalyi umysl cholovichyi” (Ostrog, 1607). On the basis of the conducted analysis the following
conclusions are offered: 1) in texts written in Church Slavonic there is a trend towards diluting the
semantic field of lexemes “blaho” and “dobro”, where the first is reserved for the defining of the area
of the sacred, and the second describes all the positive things that occurs in life on earth; 2) the texts
written in old Ukrainian language, completely missing the lexeme “blaho”, in return “dobro” applies to
the sacred, and morally advanced plots in the profane world; at the level of everyday usage this lexeme
is usually replaced by the synonyms of the other, not symbolic order; 3) the difference between the
discourse that operates with the concepts and everyday language is less fixed on the choice of language
(sacral, Church Slavonic or just “simple” old Ukrainian), but on the level at verbalized intellectual
activity, fixed in the specific variations of word usage within every linguistic usage. Refs 20.2017-03-01T00:00:00ZThe epistemological criticism of falsification scientific atheism or metamorphosis “clerical renaissance” in modern Russia

Название: The epistemological criticism of falsification scientific atheism or metamorphosis “clerical renaissance” in modern Russia
Авторы: Yudin, Kirill A.
Краткий осмотр (реферат): This article focuses on the epistemological examination of the ideological and philosophical climate
of post-Soviet Russia. The author shows that the so-called «religious renaissance» is far from being a
harmless phenomenon of spiritual life but is rather a new form of ideological dictatorship. The method
of the latter is confirmed as an alteration of information and political priorities in the direction of a
purposeful discrediting of the scientific atheistic paradigm. The article identifies five levels or types
of fraud based on an equivocation (mixing of senses) that is being firmly implanted in the public consciousness: atheism as an ideology; atheism as a discourse; atheism as a religion; atheism as
immorality; atheism as a latent intheism (godlessness). According to the author, being purified from
ideological impurities, scientific atheism is an adequate reasoned response from the intellectual and
progressive community which consists in conscious counteraction against the discrediting of scientific
knowledge, that seeks institute religious dogma and myth-making. These adherents, regardless of
their religious affiliation pursue a common goal: the creation of a corporate pseudo-elite, claiming
informational, ideological and political hegemony. The scientific-atheistic paradigm has genuine
moral and ethical values and credibility in the sense that an atheist demonstrates reasonable spiritual
autarchy, but within the framework of universal human universal values. This is rather a sign of the
person’s intellectual maturity and correctness rather than deviance and social perversion. All this, as
suggested by the author, can serve as the basis for the extension of scientific atheism as the foundation
of a genuine humanist integration of differences and the development of adequate and rational
concepts – a governance strategy. Its essence lies in the consistent implementation of the «doctrine of
deterrence» toward clericalism in all its manifestations, restrictions on religious practice by regulatory
and legal regulation of the limits of its distribution. Refs 33.2017-03-01T00:00:00ZA philosophical “little System”: On Herder’s Influence on Schopenhauer

Название: A philosophical “little System”: On Herder’s Influence on Schopenhauer
Авторы: Sattar, Alexander S.
Краткий осмотр (реферат): The article deals with Schopenhauer’s first draft of a systematic philosophy, made back in 1812 and
called “a little system” (“ein Systemchen”). In order to clarify the context, the fragment emerged in, the
article considers other parts of Schopenhauer’s “Manuscript Remains” of that time. Consequently, it
is assumed that the fragment owes its existence to an external influence of some other philosopher.
This article aims at backing up the thesis that this influence should be attributed to the impact Johann
Herder’s “Ideas Toward a Philosophy of History of Mankind” had on the young Schopenhauer. To
support the thesis, a number of relevant passages from both the “little system” and Herder’s “Ideas…”
are cited. Refs 18.2017-03-01T00:00:00ZWoman, education and politics in Plato

Авторы: Robinson, Thomas; Svetlov, Roman V.
Краткий осмотр (реферат): In this paper we wish to look at the relationship between basic education and politics in the
Republic and Laws of Plato with particular reference to the role and status of women in each account.
We shall be passing over the highly specialized higher education given to prospective male and female
Guardians described in book seven of the Republic, and concentrating on primary education. In the
Republic this, too, as it happens, is also described in terms of the role it plays in the upbringing of
prospective male and female Guardians; it is left to the reader to infer how much of this is supposed
to apply to the general population. But before we get to that, it would probably be useful just to give a
brief summary of the highlights of the primary education in question.
T. Robinson is the author of the parts of the article that address the problem of education of
women-guards, their “legal responsibility” and comparison of Republic and Laws in these questions.
R. Svetlov prepared sections devoted to the problem of the differentiation of biological sex and gender
qualities in the Platonic concept of the soul. Refs 2.2017-03-01T00:00:00ZImages of Mind in European philosophy

Название: Images of Mind in European philosophy
Авторы: Pogoniailo, Aleksandr G.
Краткий осмотр (реферат): The subject of the article is the epoch-making images of mind as products of “education” in the sense of
the Platonic paideia or the Hegelian concept of Aufhebung (sublation). Images of this kind are created
by “looking back” on ourselves. Such conversion reveals ourselves for the first time and acquires
different scopes embracing both individual “self-identification” and epoch-making comprehension.
The very name of this event of anthropogenesis — self-identification, indicates identity as its center
and periphery at the same time, since in this event there (every time) comes true everything, i.e. the
whole world with all its inhabitants including those who exist exclusively in the whole world, without
knowing it as a whole and always inquiring about it in general. When they “came to themselves”, i.e.
achieved self-identity, they had already found themselves abandoned in one or another world whose
wholeness may vary, manifesting itself in different epoch-making images of “cosmic” mind: The
Aristorelian mind-prime mover, the Divine mind of our Father, Lord of all creation (in this case it is
“super cosmic”) or the mind of a New European human. Refs 11.2017-03-01T00:00:00Z
