THE SUPERVISOR'S COMMENT Of Vicrotia Palchenko’s Bachelor Thesis titled The Role of Memory and Time in the Shaping of Subjectivity The Victoria Palchenko's bachelor's thesis is dedicated to the ontologically important subject. The main goal of her research is to reconstruct the concepts of memory and time in the ontological tradition as well as to detect the role of their reciprocal correlation in the shaping of subjectivity. In this context, I would say that this text contains two different levels. On one hand, it presents the results of Victoria's reconstruction of the concepts of memory and time in the classical works. Victoria uses the works of Plato, Augustinus and Hegel as material for her research of the notion of memory. She analyzes also few works of H. Bergson, E. Husserl and M. Heidegger as material for her research of the notion of time. On the other hand, it contains her own reflections on the problem of connection of these notions with the problem of the shaping of the subjectivity. The structure of the thesis depends on the differentiation of these levels. The first two chapters (except the introduction to the second one) deal with the reconstruction of the traditional views on memory and time. The thrid one includes the Victoria's authentic explication with regard to the problem of subjectivity in its connection with memory and time. The text contains also the introduction, conclusion and the list of references besides the mentioned chapters. Sadly, I (as her supervisor) have to say that these levels of the investigation have not sufficient connection in the thesis. It seems to be that her own reflections on the problem of the subjectivity are independent of results of her reconstruction of the notions of memory and time in the ontological tradition. However, thinking about the problem of subjectivity she demonstrate the originality as well authenticity of her use of reason which are the main capacities of a philosoper in sensu cosmico according to Kant. As exapmle, I would like to empasize (1) her explication of the essence of time delivered in the introduction to the second chapter of the thesis (p. 17) and (2) her phenomenological description of the process of the viewing (p. 34 sqq) in the last chapter. On the contrary, I would characterize the reconstructions of the concepts of memory and time made by Victoria as to common and schematic ones. She say about Plato, Augustinus and Hegel only so to say Sunday school truths. Her presentation of E. Husserl's time-though is also to abstract. Her treatment of the H. Bergson's and M. Heidegger's philosophies is more sophisticated than the one of Husserl's conception. As conclusion, I would like to say that the Victoria's thesis satisfies to all the requirement specified to the papers of such type. Taking into account the identified shortcomings of the paper I would suggest to mark this thesis "good". Mai 21th, 2017 Andrei Patkul
