Scientific Supervisor's Review of Anna Dmitrieva's Master's thesis «Modelling of the question–answer navigation systems in urban environment» The graduation thesis of Anna Dmitrieva is a research paper on modelling of the question–answer navigation systems in urban environment. To fulfill this task basing on St. Petersburg Vasilievsky island urban landscape data, Anna Dmitrieva made her own research of natural language dialogs on orientation in urban environment. Anna Dmitrieva made a review of some theoretical and practical problems, connected with the development of question–answer systems and revealed some limitations of standard navigation systems. Absolutely new in the research of Anna Dmitrieva is an attempt to create a natural language interface on the basis of the city folk modern colloquial language features. It must be stressed, that the research work of Anna Dmitrieva has an important practical value, as the model proposed might become a basis for development of real prototypes of dialog systems of navigations in urban environment both in text and voice form. I want to underline, that Anna Dmitrieva, basing on existing navigation systems, demonstrated some new possibilities of their improvement and development. The work of Anna Dmitrieva is a multilevel research, which includes work with informants and corpora, analysis of electronic maps and navigators, theoretical research of peculiarities of movement verbs use in oral and written speech, modeling of question–answer navigation systems and description of their operation. To my opinion, the research thesis of Anna Dmitrieva, both theoretically and practically, is in line with all Master’s thesis requirements and deserves a high grade.
