Kuprin "At the Circus" The final qualifying work of the Master of Linguistics Sun Yan is devoted to the analysis of lexical means of creating portraits of circus performers in the stories of A. I. Kuprin. The work consists of an introduction, two chapters and a conclusion. In the introduction, Sun Yang defines the relevance, goals and objectives of the study. The object of the master's research is the verbal portraits of the main characters of the cycle of stories by A.I. Kuprin "In the circus", and the subject of the study is the features of lexical means and their role in creating portraits in a work of art. The work under review has been checked for plagiarism. According to the analysis protocol for checking work for plagiarism, the originality of the work is 77%. The percentage of text matches (13.11%) and the percentage of citations (9.89%), which include common constructions of the scientific style of speech and language clichés. The relevance of the study lies in the insufficient knowledge of the issue of creating individual author's portraits in the artistic heritage of A.I. Kuprin (in particular, in his stories from the cycle "At the Circus") from the point of view of the use of language means, since the portrait in the writer's works of art was mainly the object of study in the works of a literary nature. The scientific novelty of this study lies in the philological approach to the analysis of the cycle of stories by A.I. Kuprin: the analysis of the functioning of the lexico-semantic groups of vocabulary used to create portraits in the cycle of stories "At the Circus" is combined with the traditional literary analysis of the work. The analysis carried out confirmed the hypothesis put forward by the author that a comprehensive analysis of the stories of the cycle will reveal the individual-author's selection of lexical-semantic groups of vocabulary and their function in creating images of circus performers in the stories of A.I. Kuprin dedicated to the tragic life of circus performers. In her study, Sun Yan described the theoretical basis of the study, identified and classified the lexical means used by the author in the portrait characteristics of characters in the cycle of stories by A.I. Kuprin, grouping them into lexico-semantic groups. On the basis of contextual analysis, Sun Yan also revealed the functions of using lexico-semantic groups in creating images of circus performers in the cycle of stories by A.I. Kuprin. The practical significance of the work lies in the fact that the results of the study can be used in the practice of teaching Russian as a foreign language, in practical classes in stylistics, as well as in classes on the analysis of text interpretation. The research part of the dissertation and the conclusions made by the applicant are logical. At the same time, the preparation of the final qualifying essay revealed that Sun Yan did not fully master the scientific style of speech and did not know how to logically express his thoughts. To carry out a philological analysis of Sun Yan's work of art, significant assistance was required from the supervisor. In the process of joint work, certain successes were achieved. Despite the remarks made, the completed qualification work generally meets the requirements for the final qualification work of a master of linguistics, and deserves a positive assessment.
