Review for the bachelor thesis of a 4th year student of St. Petersburg University LARIKOVA Anastasia Pavlovna «The image of the samurai in Japanese culture» While studying at the Faculty of Asian and African studies A.P. Larikova showed interest in the history of Japanese culture. For the first time, the student turned to the study of the image of the samurai in her third-year term paper. The topic of this study was determined by A.P. Larikova independently as a result of consultation with the head. In December 2021, she received recommendations and specific tasks from me to start working on the study. However, later contact with A.P. Larikova was lost, and the first version of the text of the work was provided to the supervisor shortly before the deadline for entering the work into the Blackboard system of St. Petersburg University. Upon a cursory acquaintance with the text, I found that even those few recommendations that were given to the student at the beginning of the work were not taken into account. I had many questions and comments regarding the approach to the study of the topic, the choice of material, the logic and structure of the work, the design of the scientific apparatus, the language of the composition, etc. However, time did not even allow the formulation of these remarks (we only succeeded in pointing out some obvious errors and misprints). Thus, I actually did not have the opportunity to take part in the student's work on her essay and, therefore, I cannot be responsible for the text of the proposed work. Nevertheless, this text exists and may have some scientific value. As an advisor, I will not mind if the reviewer and the commission consider it possible to evaluate the work of A.P. Larikova as satisfactory. . Date: 17.06.2022 Research adviser: Arakawa Yoshiko, Ph.D. Associate professor of department of Japanology, Faculty of Asian and African studies of St.Petersburg University
