Feedback on the graduation qualification paper of master student of linguistics Guan Ting on the topic «Verbs denoting mental human activity in Russian (in contrast to Chinese): functional semantic aspect». Graduation qualification paper of a master student Guan Ting is devoted to the functional-semantic analysis of the verbs of thought activity in the Russian language in comparison with Chinese. The author limits the study to an analysis of the lexical units of two lexico-semantic groups of verbs: lexico-semantic group of verbs denoting the intellectual properties and human states and lexico-semantic group of memory verbs. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that in the practice of teaching the RFL there is a need for foreign students in tables and descriptions of formal characteristics indicating the need for the use of a particular verb. The subject of the study are the functional-semantic features of Russian verbs denoting a person's thinking activity in comparison with Chinese. According to the plagiarism analysis protocol, the percentage of text matches is 24%, which consist of commonly used constructions of scientific style of speech, correctly formed quotations and clichés. The analysis confirmed the hypothesis put forward by the author that 1) the verbs of the Russian language with the meaning of cognitive activity differ semantically and functionally from the corresponding verbs of the Chinese language: Russian and Chinese verbs with the meaning of cogitative activity have different compatibility; 2) the imagery, which is the basis for the formation of the meaning of Chinese verbs, is an order of magnitude higher than in the Russian language. As a result of the study, it was found that in the quantitative respect Russian verbs predominate over Chinese, and the number of subgroups in different languages is also different. In the absence of the corresponding Chinese verb, the meaning of the Russian verb is descriptively given in Chinese. In Russian, in the meaning of the verbs of one subgroup there is a common base feature. Semantically they differ from each other by differential semes. The verbs of one subgroup in Chinese usually have a common hieroglyph, which denotes the general semantic sign of the value of a given subgroup, and the second hieroglyph of each verb either creates a new lexical unit based on the base verb. The practical significance of the work is that the results of the research can be used in the practice of teaching Russian as a foreign language while teaching the Language for special purposes. The preparation of the graduation qualification essay required Guan Ting to comprehend and interpret scientific literature on the subject in order to develop a theoretical basis for the study. The research part of the thesis and the conclusions drawn by the applicant are convincing, scientifically grounded and logical. The completed qualification paper meets all the requirements for the work of this level, and deserves a positive grade.
