The work of I.S. Giba is dedicated to the study of spectral manifestations of non-covalent intermolecular interactions. The selected subject – investigation of the phosphorous chemical shift as a marker for the structure and properties of hydrogen-bonded complexes – is topical. The literature data on the subject are scarce and disjoint, so the results obtained by Giba are original and valuable. During his work Ivan has mastered the synthesis of deuterated freonic gases CDF3/CDF2Cl, which are used as a solvent for the very low temperature liquid-state NMR spectroscopy; he has also mastered the NMR measurements themselves. Besides, Ivan has learned the principles of quantum-mechanical calculations using the Gaussian software package. Overall, Ivan has performed a large volume of work and collected significant amount of experimental and theoretical material. The results of this work have been presented by I.S. Giba as a first author on three conferences: «OrgChem-2016», «Science and Progress-2016» и «Chemistry and Chemical Education in XXI century-2017». Ivan is also one of the co-authors of two more conference contributions at «Mendeleev-2017» и «Molecular interactions in chemistry and biology-2017». Finally, Ivan is participating in one of the RFBR grants. During his work Ivan has shown persistence, diligence and efficiency. The entire work load, both experimental and computational, has been performed by Ivan with a great amount of independence. The diploma thesis is clearly written, well-structured and contains only a minimal amount of technical imperfections. The literature review contains relevant references. All results are described and discussed in detail, the conclusions are justified. The work of Giba satisfies all the requirements for the master diploma theses.
