The problems stated to V. Magerkin consisted of studying and generalization of various methods of solution of the linear-quadratic optimal filtering and control theory. He demonstrated a high level of self-independence. The formulations of main theorems were obtained after a long work. Then V. Magerkin has constructed a rather complicated program envelope for working with rational matrix transfer functions that had required not only knowledge in the fitering theory but also investigation of effective numerical methods, for instance, for a factorization of polynomial matrix functions with even not so big dimension. Finally, V. Magerkin has studied in detail a complicated example of filtering of a phase vector of a helicopter by a TV observation. I think the work is worth the excellent mark.
