The choice of the research topic was justified by the author of the relevance of the development of this direction in the St. Petersburg Federal District of the Russian Federation in accordance with the latest program documents of the Government of the Russian Federation. The presented work is an independent generalization of the author, executed in accordance with the goal and tasks. The study reflects the main points of the history of the development of cruise tourism and the current state of this area. Fresh statistical data concerning the development of the industry were used. The work is well illustrated by maps and charts of cruise itineraries. The problems and prospects of the development of cruise tourism and its role in the socio-economic development of the NW region are considered.   The noted shortcomings of work: From the shortcomings of the work can be noted the predominance of the descriptive, factual part over the analytical. In the work there is little table material that summarizes the information given in the text. The same applies to the cartographic material available in the work, which could be more informative, at the expense of the author's own additions.   .
