Review scientific adviser in the graduate qualification work of the SPbSU student Saakjan Avetik Temievich Edge cathode modelling The definition of the adequate mathematical models for electron-optical systems based on field cathodes and their numerical realization make it possible not only to interpret correctly the available data, but also to forecast the behavior of the systems under conditions for which it is difficult to carry out the experiment for a number of reasons. In the graduate qualification work of Saakyan A.T. the calculation of the electrostatic potential distribution in the entire region of the diode system based on the edge-shaped cathode is presented. The edge cathode, whose surface is part of the plane, is located on a flat substrate; the anode is a plane parallel to the substrate. All the geometric dimensions of the system and the values of the potentials at the electrodes are the parameters of the problem. The electrostatic potential distribution of the system is the solution of the boundary value problem for the Laplace equation. To find the potential the method of separation of variables in the Cartesian coordinate system is used. The potential distribution function is represented in the form of Fourier series and the undefined coefficients of the series are determined from a system of linear algebraic equations. Sahakyan A.T. presents the results of numerical calculations of the electrostatic potential distribution for a particular diode system. The graduate qualification work of Saakyan A.T. shows a good degree of preparation of the author and deserves an "good". Scientific adviser, D.Sc., Electromech. Comp. Syst.
