Ecological geology, Ph.D.    The research work of Guzeev V.E. Is devoted to the study of the ecological state of the components of the natural environment of a specially protected natural area. The national park "Smolenskoye Poozerie" was chosen as an object of research. In his study, the student focused on the study of the state of the natural environment of the Lake Lotamye region (the reserve part of the reserve). One of the reasons for the work in this area was the abnormally high concentration of mercury in the water of the protected lake for several years, recorded during the monitoring. Guzev V.E .. studied the geochemical features of soils in the catchment area, natural waters, bottom sediments. This work is based on material collected during three field seasons, the last of which the author was directly involved. In his work, Guzev V.E. In detail he studied the patterns of heavy metals in these media, with special attention to mercury. A detailed analysis of the gross content of heavy metals was conducted in the resource centers of SPbSU. Based on the results of the work, the geochemical features of the work area were assessed, the patterns of mercury distribution were determined on Wednesdays, based on the material studied, it was proved that in the period specified by the administration, mercury pollution directly occurred to the lake water. In addition, the main facilities for pollution monitoring have been identified and recommendations have been made for improving the monitoring system.  The noted shortcomings of work: From the shortcomings of the work can be noted the inadequate application of GIS technologies for material processing.
